Notre Dame Academy Women’s Rowing Team aka NDA Crew Fundraising

As with any sport these days, the cost of playing continues to increase with each passing day. Rowing is certainly no exception. This sport demands the most updated, sophisticated equipment & coaching tools the sport has to offer in order to remain safe & competitive.

Our success has come quickly due to the solid foundation built from scratch by our alumni parent volunteers, families & rowers.

The NDA Crew Parent Assoc. has set very high standards to maintain a coveted fleet of boats & equipment. We have accomplished so much during our years of existence. The success & popularity of this team & the sport has grown due to the conjoined efforts of the parent association the coaching staff & the rowers of past & present. We always look to the future for growth and success. We look to the present for strength & the past for our good fortune.

This is a school Club Sport. We do not receive any financial assistance or contributions, as would a school Varsity sport. Therefore the financial foundation & stability comes from within our very large family. We strive to keep this sport financially affordable for all families, however the cost of doing business continues to grow quickly. With this in mind, we have established a Fundraising Committee that will work hard to continue to keep this sport affordable by providing events, activities, & opportunities to each & every family. These opportunities will allow the team to continue to provide adequate safety equipment for each rower. To replace, repair, & maintain our extensive inventory of boats, transports & living support for our team members & their families without asking for additional financial contributions. We have worked very hard to maintain our current participation fees. We would like to continue these efforts in the future, but this can only be done with your participation & cooperation. VOLUNTEER is our middle name here at NDA. Without it we are just another team in just another sport. We see ourselves as leaders in the sport & take great pride in that position.

Crew is a two-season sport, Spring and Fall. We fundraise year-round because our time during the rowing season is very limited. Also, some events & opportunities are seasonal.

We have one MAJOR fundraiser activity & several other smaller participation events available to each rowing family. These events have been carefully planned & organized so that with equal participation from each family, the burden of time & work is equally distributed. Please understand, if you plan to row, then you MUST also plan to volunteer & give some of your time, skills, resources & talents back into the team.

Welcome to the start of another successful NDA Crew season!  Spring will be here soon, the girls will be out on the water and the Mudhens will be playing baseball!  As you may know, Notre Dame Academy Crew operates Stand 2 at Fifth Third Field for a number of games throughout the season as one of our major fundraisers.   We receive a percentage of the sales accumulated during each game we work.  Our stand primarily sells hotdogs, pizza, popcorn and beer.

The success of this fundraiser depends on the participation of all of our families.  We are asking that each family commit to a minimum of nine volunteer slots over the course of the season.  You may also bring along friends or other relatives to assist you with your commitment.  Individuals must be 19 or older to sell beer.  Our rowers/coxswains typically assist with wrapping hotdogs, filling popcorn boxes and “running” items to the cashiers.  Arrival time is 120 minutes before the start of the game.  We are expected to wear white/light-colored tops and khaki shorts/capris/pants.  NO open-toed shoes or tank tops are allowed in the concession stand.

Listed on the following page are the game dates and times that we have been assigned. Occasionally we are offered additional dates during the regular season and may need to schedule workers if the team makes the playoffs.  Please look over our game schedule and sign up by April 1 for your dates.  Please include the names of all workers for each game that you volunteer.  The Mudhens require us to supply them with a list of who will be working BEFORE each game.  You will not be allowed into the stadium if your name is not “on the list”.  A tentative arrival time is listed on the form, but it may change!

Please let me know if you did not sign both the volunteer liability form and the alcohol policy form at the Returning Rower meeting in January.  Worker’s signatures must be on file with the Mudhens.  I will send you a copy to sign and return if needed.

Please e-mail me back with dates you are able to work and the names of the workers or return the sheet below to Kelley Lach at practice by April 1st, 2010.

Thank you SO MUCH in advance for your help! The money we earn benefits every rower and we have fun while volunteering!  Feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns!  I will verify the dates you have requested as quickly as possible.
